The Cambodian Ophthalmological Society (COS) was established in 2003 by a group of eye doctors and approved by the Ministry of Health with the missions to provide quality eye care services in all eye care facilities in all provinces of Cambodia; to help all eye care professionals to improve their skills; and to increase patients’ confidence by raising the standards of eye care services to meet the international standard.

Members of the COS include ophthalmologists and medical assistants all over the country who are currently providing eye care services and eye health education, and are also actively involved in the control of blindness in the country. Currently, the COS has 120 members.

Following the development of the world, modern technology instruments, eye operation procedures, and medications for treatments, the COS has grown and become the member of APAO in 2008, ASEAN Ophthalmological Society (AOS) in 2014, ASEAN Economic Community Ophthalmology Meeting (AECOM) in 2013, and International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) in 2017.

The COS organized international congresses: AECOM in 2015 and 2018 respectively, Indo-China Ocular Inflammatory/Infection Meeting in 2015 and 2019, and the 4th AOS in November 2019.
