The Brunei Ophthalmology Society (BOS) was established in April 2019 following the recognition for the need of an official body to unify all those involved in eye care in Brunei Darussalam. The society’s motto, is to “Innovate, Advocate, Collaborate & Educate”, within the field of ophthalmology and vision science.

“Innovate” is to constantly keep up with the latest advances in ophthalmology and vision science. BOS aims to introduce new ideas and methods in its practice to provide the best evidence-based practice care.

In terms of “Advocate”, members of BOS are advocates for the prevention of all causes of treatable visual impairment. They act on behalf of their patients to ensure patients have optimal access to treatment.

“Collaborate” is to work jointly with one another, national and international organizations to uphold and improve upon the practice of ophthalmology and vision science in Brunei Darussalam.

“Educate” is to provide ophthalmic education for the ophthalmic community, allied health professional, nurses, and the general public.

Although in its infancy, the BOS strives to provide a united voice for the eye care community and our visually impaired population. We are strongly committed towards eliminating preventable blindness in the region.
